The house of Caron was founded in Paris in 1904, and Pour Un Homme followed in 1934. Created by Ernest Daltroff, it is one of the oldest men's fragrances still in production and is essentially a two-part idea: lavender and vanilla. Caron sources the lavender from Provence and it makes up the majority of the formula, so the opening is herbal and clean rather than sweet. The vanilla and tonka underneath round it off and stop it turning sharp. Simple, well made and easy to wear.
Fragrance notes
Top: Lavender, lavandin, bergamot, rosemary
Heart: Rose, clary sage, geranium, cedar
Base: Vanilla, tonka bean, amber, musk, moss
How it wears
Opens sharply herbal with a strong hit of fresh lavender, then softens within the first half hour as the vanilla comes through and the two sit together for the rest of the wear. Comfortable in cooler weather and in spring, though it is light enough for warm days too. Works as an everyday scent and is understated enough for the office.
Size and concentration
125ml (4.2 oz) Eau de Toilette spray. Eau de Toilette is lighter than Eau de Parfum, which makes it brighter on application and easier to wear in warm weather or at close quarters.
